Negotiation Skills

In this program, participants will learn skills that will enable them to relate to others effectively during the negotiation process. Participants will learn about the different types of negotiations and how to control the negotiation process. They will also learn about the five negotiating styles and how to use these styles and stances during the negotiation process. Participants will also have the opportunity to determine their negotiating style preference and learn both the strengths and limitations of their own preferred style, as well as those of each of the other negotiating styles.

Responding to and Managing Conflict

Conflict is a normal part of human interaction. Dealing effectively with conflict is a skill that can be learned and applied to a variety of work and non-work situations. In this one-day program, participants will learn about the types and causes of conflicts and the menu of conflict response choices available to them. They will also learn about their own conflict response preferences and how these can either help or hinder the conflict resolution process. By the end of the session, participants will be equipped to proactively respond to conflict situations using the conflict resolution strategy most appropriate for the situation.

Leading the High Performance Team

Team building is an ongoing, dynamic process that requires the constant involvement of the team leader. Participants will learn about the stages of team development, characteristics of high performance teams and the critical leadership skills necessary to effectively lead the team. The program also reviews special team challenges and how to address these before they undermine the team’s effectiveness. This program also includes some options for self-assessment of the participant’s leadership and communication skills and practices. Depending upon the self-assessment choices, this program can be presented in either a one or two-day format.

Team membership comes with both privileges and responsibilities. This program examines the dynamics of effective teams and challenges participants to evaluate their own team behaviors. Similar to the team leader’s program above, this program offers some options for self assessment by the participants. In addition, this program also has an option for assessment of the team’s strengths and current limitations. The program may be presented in either a one or two-day format.

One of the more difficult managerial tasks is managing the performance of others. In this program, participants will learn the key techniques of coaching, counseling and mentoring employees. Time Management

Time management is really about priority management. This program presents critical information on managing time and priorities. This half-day program is quick, and to the point. Participants are challenged to examine their own time usage behaviors and determine where change is necessary and possible. Participants will receive evaluation tools that can be used after the session – when the real time management work must be done! This program is not built around a planner, calendar or electronic device. The focus is on priority management and gaining control of time wasting behaviors.

This is a program for trainers and it is designed to meet the needs of all trainers - regardless of the type of training program that they deliver. This dynamic program introduces presentation techniques that will add zest and energy to any training program. Participants will learn how to set the tone for a training session and how to change the tone when necessary. Participants will also learn how to use energizers, group activities, games and other activities to enhance the learning experience and improve retention. This is a hands-on workshop and we guarantee that participants will leave the session with new tools and techniques that can be put to immediate use.

Promoting Workplace Diversity

Because diversity means different things to different people, this course is designed to get participants thinking about the value and strength that each person brings to the work environment. The program also focuses heavily on the role positive communication skills and practices can play in building upon the strengths of a diverse work group. We also explore how negative communication practices can cause misunderstandings and interpersonal conflicts. This program also has the option of including basic information on cultural differences. As an additional option, statistical information from the 2010 census may be incorporated into the presentation for most metropolitan areas. Depending upon the options chosen, this program can be offered as either a half-day or full-day session.

Preventing Sexual Harassment in the Workplace

Sexual harassment is a topic that is often hard to talk about. This half-day workshop uses a series of video vignettes to explore the various forms that harassment can take and is designed to encourage discussion of the topic in a controlled (and controllable) setting. The primary focus of this program is on recognizing and proactively responding to harassment as it occurs. This program is offered in both supervisory and non-supervisory versions.
